A new development is making things a lot easier for Uber drivers and riders: in-app translation.
Released on February 27, the upgraded Uber app now allows riders and drivers to translate each other’s messages into their preferred language.
Will it work? Sure, machine translation isn’t flawless, but in this particular situation, it seems like a good fit, since messages on the Uber app tend to be limited to specific instructions and location-related information, rather than the random variety of a regular message exchange you’d have with a friend or coworker.
