One thing you should never let a robot do: translate

Updated: Dec 30, 2019

An ever-increasing amount of translation tools, apps, and gadgets have come into the world recently, including Google Assistant’s Interpreter mode, which we covered in a previous post. The fact that there is technology that can instantly (or nearly) translate for us would make anyone want to cry out “What a time to be alive!” (In their language of choice.)

But as any translator or language expert will tell you, language isn’t about words alone. Behind those words are subtleties like connotations, double meanings, humor, and cultural references.

As advanced as technology has gotten, machines simply can’t pick up on all of those details. Machine translation fails like these show this perfectly.

When it comes to really important translations, tough as it might be for our tech-reliant culture to admit, only a human will do.

Read on to learn more about why there should always be a human behind translations and localization.
