Older Americans are being prescribed inappropriate medications

A recent survey involving an impressive 218 million respondents has found that 1 in 3 older Americans are being prescribed medication they don’t need.

The problem seems to partially stem from these individuals’ concern for their health. This leads them to make numerous visits to doctors and hospitals, which naturally prompts healthcare providers to write them more prescriptions.

The most common needlessly prescribed medications include first-generation antihistamines, antipsychotics, and NSAIDS.

Read on to learn more about which medications are being incorrectly prescribed, and the causes behind this issue.
