How coronavirus has impacted medical research

The COVID-19 pandemic has had devastating effects on many areas of our lives. This includes non-COVID-related medical research.

Since focus and funding have overwhelmingly shifted towards understanding, preventing, and hopefully curing coronavirus, other areas of medical research have been neglected or even dropped entirely.

According to an exposé in Medical News Today, laboratories and universities around the world are scaling back on non-COVID-related research. Those projects that do continue may have to deal with another effect of the pandemic: supply shortages due to delayed or halted international shipping.

Fortunately, there is some good news in the midst of the bad. For instance, due to the alarming amount of misinformation that’s been spread about coronavirus, medical publications have been fact-checking more rigorously than ever before. Hopefully, this will establish a new standard that long outlasts the pandemic.

Read on to learn the bad and good sides of medical research in the time of coronavirus.
