Guide to medical conditions on darker skin (finally) published
All human beings can experience skin problems. But many human doctors only tend to study light-colored skin. This means that they may have a problem identifying even common conditions like eczema on brown or black skin.
When Malone Mukwende began his medical studies at the University of London, he was surprised by this issue, and decided to do something about it. After years of collaborating with colleagues as well as volunteers who’ve provided photographs and information about their conditions, Mukwende and his associates published the Mind the Gap Handbook.
This guide, which features photographs and gives specific information about the way dermatological and other medical conditions present on darker skin, has quickly become a staple for health experts around the world.
Read on to learn more about creating the Mind the Gap Handbook, and why it was so desperately needed.
