A pregnancy test for everyone

Medical Pharmaceutical Translations • Nov 18, 2020 12:00:00 AM

Pregnancy tests should be available to every woman who needs them, and many strides have been made in that area. But blind and visually-impaired women have trouble still have accessing pregnancy test results.

One solution is the app Be My Eyes, which pairs blind or visually impaired users with volunteers who can do things like read instructions or describe their surroundings for them.

But this doesn’t allow for privacy.

Fortunately, The Royal National Institute for the Blind has come up with a tactile pregnancy test that would allow results to be detected by touch, not by reading a symbol or screen. The test would also use bright, high-contrast colors to help visually-impaired users.

Unfortunately, the test is just a prototype until someone comes forward who can produce it cost-effectively.

Read on to learn more about the pregnancy test prototype, which hopefully will soon be available to visually-impaired and blind consumers.
