A new way to administer medication to the eye
As anyone who’s ever had to use eyedrops knows, they aren’t very precise. It’s easy to blink at the wrong moment, aim incorrectly, and there’s no way to be certain that a particular dose of medication has reached and remained in the eye.
Fortunately, scientists from University of New South Wales (UNSW) in Sydney and Uka Tarsadia University in Gujarat, India, may have found a solution: Specially adapted contact lenses could be used to distribute medicine to the eye.
This would not only help with exact dosing, but also allow medicine to stay in the eye for as long as necessary to be effective.
